I powered on today, walking alone all day. I missed the wine fountain but a fellow pilgrim saved me some and I downed it with some naproxen. The path was undulating through several small villages with wide open fields. Lots of vineyards, one of which was "idache ",fields of cabernet and Tempranillo. I managed to eat a few as well as almonds, figs, blackberries, apples and almonds along the path. I walked with an Australian ,Dave, and an American Dan. Both of whom were quite interesting. Dan, is a retired I cu peds dr.,who is from Spokane. His owns a winery in Sonoma.
At mile 10 or so I developed rather severe l quad pain. I was alone and wondered whether I would make it. I grabbed a tree branch to use as a walking stick, took naproxen with wine and some cream of ibuprofen. After an hour or so it got better and I was able to hobble home. I managed to reserve several beds for us,as all rooms are filling up. I thought I was indestructible and obviously I am not.it was a good test of my will. Several beers now seems to be helping.
I walked solo for a large part of the day and thought often of tranquilo. Our good friend, learcio, keeps saying that and it is becoming my mantra. I realize(esp with 2 cups of coffee) that I could be more tranquil and will focus on that. I am sure I will continue to have multiple chances to test it.
Last night was interesting. 3 of us went out. We were in a bar and we realized that it was 20 till ten. Our albergue closes at 10. We tried to find our way and got lost. I asked a spanish man where we were on the map. He proceeded to walk 100 meters, get his car and drive us to the albergue. We got there at 2 minutes till ten and would have had to sleep on the street. I tried to pay the young spanish man .he refused any money. I to.d him he was the most wonderful person. It is an example of the spirit here.
Going to church and dinner then to bed.
Buen es noches.
